Broughton Hub

RPS were commissioned by Salford City Council to produce a Stage 3 design package associated with modifications to the heating and hot water systems at the Broughton Hub in Salford in association with the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme.

Our M&E Division undertook all works to the building, delivered in-house by RPS operatives.

The mechanical works included the design of mechanical services from BSRIA Stage 3-6. The main focus was the replacement of the Gas Fired Heating System with a heat pump technology.

We installed eight Mitsubishi CAHV P500 heat pumps located at roof level. This included all works including installation of an expansion vessel and pressurisation system, 4000 litre buffer vessel, dosing pot and dirt and air separator, new twinhead primary pump c/w integral inverter control, 344kW plate heat exchanger and all associated pipework and valves including trace heating.

We replaced the existing gas hot water system to be with a Mitsubishi shunt pump, works included installation of an expansion vessel and pressurisation system, 1000 litre unvented cylinder with associated unvented kit including expansion vessel on cold water feed, 40kW plate heat exchanger, new twin head secondary pump with integral inverter control.

Refrigerant works were also undertaken across the building which included the installed of seven DX refrigerant split systems to be installed for overdoor air curtains, a new DX condenser to be installed for existing HAU heating coil and four new DX refrigerant split systems to be installed for ducted fan coils in the trampoline hall.

As part of the mechanical works we undertook the strip out and removal of all existing unit heaters and gas heaters, existing Gas safety circuit to plantroom. We also replaced all existing radiators with new with TRVs.

As part of the project we undertook all making good and builders work, all water treatment & flushing of new heating and domestic hot water systems. All commissioning in line with CIBSE codes of the new heating and domestic hot water systems.

As a part of the electrical works, we carried out the design of electrical services from BSRIA Stage 3-6, applied for new upgraded Electricity connection, we stripped out all redundant electrical services and undertook all Electrical works associated with the Mechanical Installation.
